Priority Region: BC Central Interior

Staff contacts:

The BC Central Interior includes the leeward, or rain shadow side of BC’s coast range. Within it is a 350-mile natural arc of habitat starting in the north with the volcanic Itcha Ilgachuz Mountains, then sweeping south and east to the Fraser Canyon.

The region features myriad lakes, old growth interior Douglas fir forests, grasslands, the highest peaks in the Coast Range, and nine of BC's 14 biogeoclimatic zones.

Very little scientific information has been gathered from the region, other than that it contains a full suite of top-level predators. In fact, despite its proximity to both the coast and the lower mainland, it is largely ignored by scientists as well as conservation groups. What is known is that the region includes the headwaters of four major rivers which drain to the Great Bear Rainforest, representing natural connecting corridors for migratory wildlife such as bears and wolves.

We are supporting the following organizations for work in this area. When you click on an organization name you will see a list of all grants made to that organization, which may include projects funded in other program areas.

(Organizations receiving science-related grants are not included in this list. Please see our Conservation Science section for those grants.)
